Patron Safety

Parks are places where people should be safe enjoy time outdoors with friends and family.

How safe do you feel in your neighborhood?

Lights and Emergency Call Boxes

On the first day of camp, we took a walk to Central Park and noticed there were some major problems such as litter, the equipment was out of shape, and the water was greatly polluted. There was one problem that stood out from all the rest that we chose to help improve, and that was to help add lighting and emergency call boxes.
As we were walking around the trail, we noticed that there were many places to hide and sneak up on people, because there weren’t any lights. Also there would be no way to contact anyone for help if there was somebody that was sneaking up on people which is why we need emergency call boxes. Not to mention that most people don’t bring their own lights, so it’s also a matter of people tripping over something as small as a rock.
Central Park is a safe place for families and their kids to run around and play on the playground during the day, but it’s not so safe at night. The benefits for having lights are that there won’t be as many accidents regarding the lack of lights. Also, parents would feel safer letting their children walk on the trail at night. The benefits for emergency call boxes are that people would feel safe knowing that if they need help, they can use the call emergency services when needed.
After researching, we found a type of solar lights that fits the park’s needs. The financial benefits for adding lights are it’s easy to install and assemble with its slip- fit system design and provided direct burial 24’ color matched aluminum pole. It also installs for less than the cost of a grid connected system, saves money with no electricity bills because it gains its power from the sun, and no maintenance for the first 5 years. We feel that by installing lights, it would increase safety and security, thus making people want to come more often. It is also environmentally friendly, so you don’t have to worry about how the animals would feel, because it is perfectly safe for places such as parks, docks, boat ramps and other remote areas. Also getting the lights would demonstrate your dedication to the city and people of Lewisville.
In conclusion, we feel that having night lights and emergency call boxes for Central Park is a way to bring more people in. We hope that adding lights and emergency call boxes will allow kids to have a safe, yet enjoyable experience at the park.  Thank you for your time and we hope that you take our proposal into consideration.
