Patron Safety

While touring the park, a group of students noticed there is very little light illuminating the parking lot and play ground at night; they said they noticed no lights along the trails in the woods. They hope to make Central Park safe for those choosing to exercise at night by providing additional lighting as well an an Emergency Call Box that can immediately alert police in the event of an emergency situation.

ADA Regulations

Currently, Central Park's restrooms and amenities are lacking when it comes to cleanliness and accessibility. Upon further investigation, students learned the restrooms and walkways in our local park are actually not aligned with ADA regulations, making them inaccessible for those in wheelchairs, and difficult for those needing walkers, canes, and crutches to use.

Water Quality

The students have surveyed the abiotic and biotic factors of the habitat, and they have determined the river flowing through Central Park is in need of maintenance. Because of all the trash they found in the river, they feel a team should be appointed to routinely clean the river.

Litter & Recycling

When they were touring the park, students noticed there was tons of trash littered across the park area. Even though there are trashcans present, we feel more trashcans as well as recycling bins would help people be influenced to keep our park beautiful.

Crime Prevention

Each week during the school year, students come to school telling stories about the inappropriate things that go on in Central Park. On group of students looked into the types of crime we have in our community, and they determined increased police patrols and neighborhood watches might be able to help with these problems.
